Immediate start for two months initially, extension possible

 

Are you an experienced Communications and Events Officer looking for a new role? How would you like the opportunity to join one of London’s leading Universities as a temporary member of staff?

 

MAIN PURPOSE

The main purpose of the role is to coordinate the Programme’s internal and external communications, as well as the redesign of its website.

Communications: The postholder will be responsible for the Undergraduate Studies website, online and social media presence, and overseeing that the visual identity of the department is consistently used by all team members and within departments. The postholder will need to be able to create copy and coordinate visual material for website and social media ready communications.

Events: The postholder may contribute to the organisation and promotion of Faculty events that are due to occur in the Summer of 2017. These will include a summer party and awards evening and UG graduation reception. This will include: liaising with contributors and speakers; marketing and evaluation; organising venues, catering, literature, audio-visual facilities; recording and archiving events; registrations and payments; administering budgets, invoices and contracts.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Redesign website and maintain any twitter and social media feeds, with appropriate tone and content for each form of media, adhering to the department’s visual identity
  • Overseeing the consistent and high-quality web presence of the department, it’s staff and activities across relevant sectors and networks
  • Draft internal newsletters and assist in implementing systems to ensure that team members communicate effectively internally
  • Coordinate the creation of any marketing literature, including posters, banners, leaflets, etc

It is likely that duties and responsibilities may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances, in discussion with the post holder.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge

  • Understanding of data protection legislation

 

Skills

  • Computer literate (including MS Office, content management systems, databases and imaging software
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build networks and promote good working relationships
  • Ability to manage own workload and display good organisational ability
  • Ability to use one’s own initiative and make decisions to the appropriate level
  • Ability to present information in a compelling way, know how to build interest in an event and be keen to use new technologies to innovate

 

Experience

  • Event co-ordination
  • Working without supervision
  • Managing websites and using social media for professional networks
  • Liaising with contractors, designers and stakeholders to accomplish project targets
  • Creating visual materials and marketing literature
  • Creating and managing complex databases and information systems
  • Working in a higher education and/or policy institution

 

Personal Qualities

  • A strong team mentality, with the willingness and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise effectively
