Governance Officer

£35,000, SE London

We are currently looking to recruit a Governance Officer on a permanent basis. You will have substantial experience in having serviced boards and committees, with a good understanding of governance practice within the public sector. You will also have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, and a proven ability to influence and build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships

Duties include:

• To act as Secretary to a number of the organisations Committees and Groups.
• To promote Governance best practice in the servicing of the organisations Committees and Groups.
• To act as a source of information and guidance with regard to the above for Committee Chairs/Members, and the organisations employees.
• To support the development of the organisations Governance processes.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities:

• Act as Committee Secretary to the organisations Committees and other groups as required, ensuring meetings adhere to the Code of Corporate Governance.
• Work closely with the Head of Governance and the Committee Chairs, in the preparation of agendas, minutes and background papers for committees and other groups, in accordance with the house style.
• Ensuring that relevant employees and other relevant individuals are made aware of Committee decisions and that those required to action these decisions are informed in good time and that the progress of actions is monitored.
• Point of contact for the organisation and committee members’ queries escalating where necessary.
• Managing the correct processing of expense claims from members and maintaining internal records for budgeting purposes.
• To support delivery of member training by compiling and recording training needs and training attended. Co-ordination of the annual organisation and Committee member appraisal process.
• Coordination of public appointments campaigns.
• Work with the Head of Governance on the on-going development and management of governance processes.
• Contributing to projects as required, including the parliamentary laying of the Annual Report and Accounts.
• Provide support to the Information Governance Manager to respond to FOI and Data Protection requests in accordance with statutory requirements.
• To understand the information security requirements for information accessed or processed in carrying out the duties of the role, treating the information with appropriate care as set out in the Information Classification and Handling Policy.
• To carry out the responsibilities of the post with due regard to the organisations Equality and Diversity Policy and to treat colleagues and other stakeholders with respect and dignity at all times.

Responsible for the coordination of allocated Committees and Groups.
Liaises with Committee members, external suppliers and stakeholders.

Occasional travel in the UK may be required.
