Corona Virus

Covid-19 is a type of virus. Typical symptoms include fever and a cough that may progress to a severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. Generally, coronavirus can cause more severe symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, older people, and those with long-term conditions like diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease.

The situation in the UK is changing daily and the Government response is constantly evolving.  Government information can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19

The NHS website has more information about how coronavirus is spread and answers common questions about the virus.

The Prime Minister has announced that the three-day qualification period for statutory sick pay will be temporarily lifted.  At the time of publication, we don’t know how this will be rolled out in practice. The Government is being pressurised to address these points.

The government has stated that if NHS 111 or a doctor advises an employee or worker to self-isolate, they should receive any Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) due to them.

This is an evolving situation and we will update as we know more.  As you will appreciate we cannot speculate on individual situations.  This will be very much a reactive situation which will be dealt as the individual situation’s changes.

For now follow the guidelines from NHS to lessen the chance of you or others catching and transmitting the virus.
